Consistency Over Perfection: April’s Gentle Reminder

January feels like a lifetime ago. The goals we set, the promises we made—they’re still there, but they’ve gotten a little quieter. Life picked up speed, distractions multiplied, and maybe you lost track of the momentum you started with. I know I did.

I looked at the list of goals I put together at the beginning of the year and realized I hadn’t moved the needle on most of them. And for a second, I started to go down the usual path—telling myself I was behind, or that maybe those goals weren’t realistic. But that voice isn’t the truth. That voice is just resistance showing up in a familiar disguise.

There’s nothing wrong with needing a reset. We’re human. We get pulled in different directions. We get tired, busy, uncertain. And while we often think we need to feel inspired before we take action, the opposite is usually true. It’s the small actions—the quiet, intentional choices—that create the spark again.

Big goals are beautiful, but they don’t come to life through bursts of effort. They’re built through practice. Through the repetition of showing up, especially when you don’t feel like it.

One of my favorite lines from the yoga sutras says that when something is practiced consistently, with sincerity and devotion, it becomes a firm resting place. That’s not about striving—it’s about stability. About having something you return to, something that holds you when motivation runs out.

If you’re feeling resistance, that’s normal. It’s a sign you’re brushing up against your edge. It’s also a sign that there’s something worth exploring on the other side. If you stop now, you already know how that feels. But if you keep going—even imperfectly—you might end up somewhere entirely new. Somewhere better.

And here’s the thing: you don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect plan or a dramatic change. You just need one step. One choice today that aligns with the version of yourself you’re becoming. Start the email. Open the notebook. Go outside. Move your body. Say yes. Say no. It all counts.

Support helps too. If you’re stuck, find a coach, a group, or a friend who can remind you of who you are when you forget. Sometimes we just need someone to hold the mirror up and say, “Hey, you’re doing better than you think.”

So no, you’re not behind. You’re right on time. Exactly where you’re supposed to be. The rest of the year is still in front of you, full of possibility. You can begin again—not out of guilt, but out of love for the life you’re trying to build.

You don’t need a special occasion to recommit to what matters. You just need a moment. This one will do.

If this resonates and you're ready to take the next step—whether it’s getting support, making a shift, or simply showing up more fully in your life—reach out. Let’s have a conversation. I’d love to hear where you are and where you want to go.

The door’s open. All you have to do is walk through.

Love,
Zak
